A federal energy research and materials science R&D lab, with its origin as a uranium metals lab for the Manhattan Project. Facilities include a nuclear reactor and several laboratory buildings, located on 10 acres at Iowa State University. The lab employs over 400 people, and is owned by the DOE. Iowa State is a major science and technolgy university.
