Argonne National Laboratory, Illinois

A large and diversified federal R&D lab, owned by the Department of Energy, and operated by the University of Chicago. It is one of the major scientific campuses in the USA. Facilities at this 1,700 acre installation include a superconducting linear accelerator, The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM), The Advanced Photon Source (which provides high-energy x-ray beams for research), the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility, and the Transportation Research and Analysis Computing Center, among others. Much of the research conducted here is devoted to developing innovative renewable energy technologies. The site is also home to the New Brunswick Laboratory (NBL), which serves as the "U.S. Government's Nuclear Materials Measurements and Reference Materials Laboratory."
