Cannon Air Force Base, located in Clovis, in eastern New Mexico, is a 4,000 acre base with the usual housing, hangars, and runways. It has a work force around 3,000, and is home to a major Special Operations Unit of the Air Force, involved in unmanned aerial vehicle use and training. The Melrose Range, a 60,000 acre area 25 miles west, is the base's principal training range, and it has seen some recent upgrades.
