Carlin Mine Complex, Nevada

The Silverstar Pit is the northernmost of the three open pit gold mines that, along with four underground mines, make up the Carlin Mine Complex, operated by the Nevada Gold Mines Company, one of the largest gold mining operations in the nation. The company is a partnership between the Barrick Gold Corporation and the Newmont Corporation, companies that have been mining gold in the region for decades. The mines produce close to a million ounces of gold annually, from a geologic region called the Carlin Trend, west of Elko. The state of Nevada produces most of the gold mined in the USA.
