Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina

This Air Force Base covers 3,772 acres, and is one of three major airlift installations on the East Coast, flying military personnel and equipment to destinations all over the world using C-17s and other large cargo aircraft. It shares the runways with Charleston’s civilian airport, which also has a large maintenance center for Boeing. The base uses the 1,400-acre North Auxiliary Air Field installation, located 85 miles north of the base for practice dropping.
