Cherry Point Refinery, Washington

Cherry Point is the fourth largest refinery on the West Coast, and the largest in Washington. 225,000 barrels of crude are processed each day at this plant to produce gasoline for northwest markets. Owned by British Petroleum (BP) the plant makes gasoline for the ARCO brand, a company that has nearly 1,000 ampm minimart gas stations in five states, (purchased by BP in 2000), and also sells its gas to other retailers. Also produced here is jet fuel for commercial and defense aircraft, and calcined coke, a product used in other industries, including aluminum manufacturing (the nearby Alcoa Intalco smelter is a customer). The crude consumed at the plant comes from Alaska, transported by Arco's fleet of company-owned tankers.
