Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, Virginia

A bridge-tunnel structure extending 17.65 miles across Chesapeake Bay, which makes it the longest bridge-tunnel structure in the world, completed in 1964. In 1995, work began on a project to increase the two-lane roadway into four lanes, by way of constructing a second span parallel to the original Bridge-Tunnel. The expansion was completed in April, 1999.
