Corcoran State Prison, California

One of the toughest and highest security California State prisons, with Level I, III, and IV facilities, as well as both secure and protective housing units. Built in 1988, the Central Valley-located facility is home (as of 2015) to 4,341 inmates (design capacity of 3,116), mostly from the Los Angeles area, including the late Charlie Manson. The Central Valley has several of the nation's superlative correctional complexes amid its arid industrial agriculture landscape.
