Enchanted Forest, Maryland

A classic of the genre, this roadside attraction and family theme park opened in 1955, ultimately closing in the early 1990's. It lay abandoned and neglected for many years, until 2005, when restoration efforts spearheaded by Martha Clark and the Enchanted Forest Preservation Society, resulted in most of the park's artifacts being relocated to nearby Clark's Elioak Farm over a lengthy period of time. Originally located on the Baltimore Pike, a highway which was later superseded by Interstate 70, the land immediately adjacent is now a shopping plaza, which has taken the name of the forest. The location of what was once the park is in a small valley behind Petco.
