Fort Monroe, Virginia

Formerly the headquarters of the U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), until the base's decommissioning in 2011. Fort Monroe is located on a point of land at the north entrance to Hampton Roads (the end of the estuary of the James River that lies between Hampton and Norfolk). On the grounds of the installation is a civil war fort. Portions of Fort Monroe have been designated as a National Monument.
