Galveston Breakwater, Texas

At 6.74 miles, the granite South Breakwater at the Port of Galveston is possibly the longest breakwater in the country. It is part of a network of structures that protect Galveston's port and the vital industrial and shipping facilities in and around Galveston Bay, where a significant amount of the nation's oil and chemicals are produced. Flood and shoreline structures in the region are built primarily by the Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District.
