Gunter Annex, Alabama

Gunter is a logistics and computer systems analysis and training center for the Air Force, and is headquarters for the Business and Enterprise Systems (BES) Directorate, which is responsible for "data processing and communications computer systems and capabilities for major commands and Air Force bases around the world." BES is a highly secure entity involved in the processing, acquisition, and distribution of intelligence data as well as network management, and is part of the larger Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB, with secondary links to Hanscom AFB in Massachusetts. Major defense and intelligence computer systems companies such as the MITRE corporation have offices here. Gunter was once an independent Air Force Base, but is now considered an Annex to Maxwell Air Force Base, located on the west side of Montgomery. Part of the Air Force's Air University functions, based at Maxwell, are located at Gunter, with classrooms, housing, and offices.
