Kroger is the largest retail grocery company in the country. It has around 2,600 stores under its name and others, such as Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Ralphs, Dillons, and Smiths. Kroger does around $90 billion in sales annually, and is the second largest retailer in revenue (after Walmart). It operates 39 manufacturing plants, including 15 dairies, 10 bakeries, and 8 product plants, making things like peanut butter, cat food, sauces, nuts, spices, and jams. Kroger has 34 distribution centers, arranged in three tiers. The first tier is for perishables and chilled items, and serves stores within a 200 mile radius. The second tier is for dry grocery and pharmaceuticals, and serves stores within a 350 mile radius. The third tier is for seasonal and lowest turn-over merchandise. The company has a fleet of 2,700 tractors, and 10,000 trailers.
