Lackawanna Steel Plant
A 2,000-acre steel plant on the shore of Lake Erie, just south of Buffalo. Operated by Bethlehem Steel since 1922, the massive Lackawanna complex is much less busy than it was in its heyday, but the site is impressive. The galvanizing plant is still active and employs around 400 people making parts for the automotive industry. The coke-making facilities, which employed over 300, were sold in 2001.
