Lackland Air Force Base, Texas

Lackland is one of four active or re-aligned Air Force bases in the San Antonio area. It primarily is a basic training center for all new Air Force, Air Force Reserve, and Air National Guard recruits, which number around 35,000 every year. Lackland also trains Air Force personnel in a variety of technical fields, and conducts training of Latin American military forces in Spanish (the base has connections with the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Califonia). The base has 6,784 acres, including a 3,973-acre Training Annex, on the west side of the 410 beltway. To the east is the Kelly Annex (formerly Kelly Air Force Base) which unlike Lackland, has runways. Lackland , along with Fort Sam Houston and Randolph Air Force Base, are technically now united as Joint Base San Antonio.
