Lockheed Martin Marietta Plant, Georgia

One of the major military aircraft plants in the USA, Marietta is one of three of Lockheed Martin's primary aircraft plants (the others are in Fort Worth Texas, and Palmdale, California). Marietta has manufactured over 2,500 C-130 Hercules, one of the most famous tactical airlifters ever made. One of the world's largest aircraft, the C-5M Super Galaxy is produced here, as is the P-3 Orion sub hunter. The F-22 Raptor tactical fighter was manufactured here, and components of the F-35 Lightening II fighter. This has been Lockheed’s large aircraft assembly plants since 1951. During the Vietnam War, more than 32,000 people worked here. The plant, located next to Dobbins Air Reserve Base, northwest of Atlanta has a half square mile of floor space. It started life as the Bell Company's bomber plant in the early 1940's, for the production of B-29s, and is also known as Air Force Plant 6.
