Lockheed Rocket Test Site, California

A  9,117-acre rocket test facility, once operated by Lockheed. Clean-up of the site was delayed due to a potential threat to the federally protected Stephens kangaroo rat. It remains a vast, closed-off area, with a few test stands and industrial areas, unmanned and abandoned. Currently, Lockheed maintains a 565-acre conservation plot there, while the remaining 8,552 acres are owned by the State of California.
