Mojave Generating Station, Nevada

A large (1,580 MW) coal-fired power plant that served Las Vegas and Southern California. Notable because it used coal that was piped-in from the Black Mesa Mine, 273 miles away, in Arizona. The coal was crushed and mixed with water at the mine, a process that used a billion gallons of water a year, and towns as far as 50 miles away from the mine noticed a substantial loss of groundwater.
