National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Colorado

Operated by the Department of Energy, this multiple laboratory facility is engaged in research and development in renewable energy and related technologies. Some of the facilities include: the Solar Energy Research Facility (SERF), which houses 42 laboratories for research in photovoltaics, superconductivity and related materials science; the Field Test Laboratory Building (FTLB), which houses 41 laboratories for research in alternative fuels and industrial processes; and The National Wind Technology Center (NWTC), located in the Rocky Flats Environmental Technology Site buffer zone, which is the site of NREL's wind energy research. NREL leases another 275,000 sq. ft. of office space in the Denver West Office Park. The space is used for administrative offices and research labs.
