Navajo Refinery, New Mexico

The largest oil refinery in New Mexico, a state with relatively little refining capacity, the Navajo refinery in Artesia, in the southeast corner of the state, has a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day (the three other refineries in the state, at Bloomfield, Lovington, and Gallup together can produce another 50,000 barrels per day). Owned by the Holly Corporation of Dallas, Texas, the refinery started here in the 1960s, and has grown over the years, in some cases by relocating production units here from other refineries. Holly owns three other small refineries, in Lovington, New Mexico, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and in Salt Lake City, Utah. Gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel produced here are distributed and consumed around the region.
