Noranda Alumina Plant, Louisiana

This plant refines bauxite, imported primarily from large buaxite mines in Jamaica, converting it into alumina, the raw material for aluminum.  Purchased in 2004 by Noranda Aluminum from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation, one of the largest producers of aluminum in the United States. It is one of over 140 product and chemical plants along the Mississippi River, between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
