Oldest Concrete Street, Ohio

Court Avenue was built in 1881, before the age of the automobile. Considered the oldest concrete street in America, it is still in use outside the courthouse in Bellefontaine, though the street is restricted to light traffic (no trucks). A statue of the leading proponent for the paving of the street, a local cement salesman named George Bartholomew, was erected on the site in 1991, the 100th anniversary of the paving.
