Opa-locka Thematic Resource Area, Florida

Opa-locka is a city developed in 1926 by Glenn Curtiss, an aviation pioneer turned real estate developer, based on an Arabian Nights theme.  As a result, there are street names such as Aladdin Street, Ali Baba Avenue, and Sultan Avenue, as well as one of the largest concentrations of Moorish Revival buildings in the country.  Curtiss had dozens of buildings built in this style, most of which were designed by architect Bernhardt E. Muller.  About twenty of these buildings remain, and are on the National Register of Historic Places.
