Paramount Ranch, California

Paramount Studios operated a movie ranch on this site from 1927 to 1952, filming many of the old westerns on the 2,700 acres owned by the studio and the sets built on the grounds. In 1980, the property was transferred to the National Park Service as part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The western-themed set buildings, most of which were built in the 1950's, are still used as a location, making this a rare example of a movie ranch owned by the federal government.
