Pugh's Old Mill, Arkansas

A folly of an old abandoned mill, made from scratch in the 1930s, commissioned by a local developer to beautify an "unsightly" overgrown creek between two artificial lakes in the Lakewood housing development. A sculptor from Mexico City, named Dionicio Rodriguez, made the most remarkable features of the site, forming complex foot bridges, benches, and faux rustic woodwork out of cement. The site was used in the opening scene of "Gone with the Wind," for some reason. Though the romantic, lush scene resembles a Thomas Kinkade painting, it has a charm and character due mostly to Rodriguez's work.
