Shell Geismar Plant, Louisiana

A large Shell chemical plant on an 800-acre site on the Mississippi River. The plant is one of the world's largest producers of surfactants, chemicals used in detergents and lubricants, and also makes ethylenes, such as those used in anti-freezes. It is located along petrochemical alley, one of the nation's largest industrial corridors, with plastics plants and chemical plants lining both banks of the Mississippi River, between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
