An environmental research center studying coastal ecosystems in general, and the environment of Chesapeake Bay wetlands in particular. Operated by the Smithsonian Institution, the facility has numerous collectors, samplers, piers, fish wiers, walkways, sensors, and a 165-foot tall observation tower, on its 2,650-acre tract.
