Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida

Within 29,000 acres on the coast of the Florida Panhandle, this base trains fighter pilots, mostly in F-22 jets (the largest F-22 fighter wing in the Air Force resides here). It is also the site of the Southeastern North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) radar station, one of six continental stations that comprise the continental air and space defense system, which includes the Cheyenne Mountain control center. Tyndall manages many of the aerial target drones used in missile tests at the Gulf of Mexico ranges, and at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Tyndall is also associated with the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory, the Air Force's largest laboratory complex.
