Walton's Five and Dime, Arkansas

The original five and dime that was the start of Sam Walton's Walmart empire, circa 1950, is located in downtown Bentonville, on the town square. While maintaining its authentic facade, its interior has been transformed from small town store to the Walmart Museum, featuring Walmart souvenirs and trade show like displays depicting the history of Walmart. Highlights of the information-packed gallery include "Sam Walton's Favorite Pickup" (a 1979 Ford, permanently parked on a riser inside the gallery), photographs of Sam Walton's sprawling house, located just outside town, and behind glass windows, a full-size recreation of his office at the corporate headquarters. Walmart's Corporate Headquarters is also in Bentonville, a half mile away, on a commercial strip, across from a Walmart Supercenter.
