Waterton Lake Border Campground, Montana

This remote campground is on the international boundary, on the west shore of Upper Waterton Lake. It is accessible only by foot trails, or by boat from Canada. The campground called Boundary Bay Campground, is mostly on the Canadian side of the boundary, but the boat dock is on the US side. Large monuments and a 20 feet wide cutline through the trees make the location of the border very clear. It is on one of a few hiking trails that cross the international boundary in Glacier Park. Glacier Park is also known as Waterton–Glacier International Peace Park, especially near the border. The name was given to it in 1932, to celebrate the border-sharing national parks of Waterton Lakes, in Canada, and Glacier, in the US. The border runs through the park for 40 miles, crossing the Continental Divide half way through. The Going to the Sun Road snakes through the mountains south of the border, and is the only road through the park. Hikers crossing the boundary are supposed to check in with customs and immigration before leaving the park.
