Watts Towers, California

Towers constructed by Simon Rodia between 1921 to 1955, and a landmark in the cause of protecting vernacular, visionary, folk, outsider art and architectural monuments. Watts Towers were saved from demolition in 1959, and are now owned by the State of California, while their daily management falls to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. The towers are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as having been designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark.
