World's Largest Thermometer, California

Easily spotted from the Interstate between Barstow and Las Vegas, the world’s tallest thermometer has a digital readout that displays the outside temperature. It is 134 feet high, the same number as the highest air temperature ever recorded in North America, measured in 1913 at nearby Death Valley. At the bottom of the thermometer there is an information center, gift shop, and picnic tables. The thermometer was shut off for a period beginning in September 2012, and reopened in July 2014 with a new coat of paint and LED lights.
