Easily spotted from the Interstate between Barstow and Las Vegas, the world’s tallest thermometer has a digital readout that displays the outside temperature. It is 134 feet high, the same number as the highest air temperature ever recorded in North America, measured in 1934 at nearby Death Valley. For many years there was an information center at the bottom of the thermometer, in case you had any questions. The thermometer is no longer in operation, and was put up for sale in January 2013.
