The Desert Research Station (DRS) is a CLUI research and display facility located in the Mojave desert, acting as a satellite to the Los Angeles location, and focusing on the California Desert region. Inside are displays about the land uses of this remarkable "hinterland" of the Los Angeles Basin. It is open to the public during special events and by appointment. Field sessions and group tour programs are based out of the DRS.
Directions: From downtown Los Angeles, take I-10 east, to I-15 north to Las Vegas/Barstow. Just before Barstow, take Highway 58 west. Proceed approximately 9.5 miles to Hinkley Road, which is sometimes indicated with a "Hinkley 1 Mile" sign. Turn right on Hinkley Road and drive north 4 miles to the DRS, located on the east side of the road.
