756 The other side of consumer culture is excretion culture. The physical law of the conservation of mass determines that everything we ingest, individually and collectively, continues to exist afterwards, even if in a severely transformed state. The movement and management of this “waste” is the realm of re-engineering material after its normal usefulness has been extracted. Though often ignored, it is another economy, which constitutes at least half of the work of life on the planet.
