Built in 1924, this is one of the oldest commercial buildings in Mar Vista. It is located in an area known as Mormon Hill, an early Mormon community. At that time the building was known as the Hewlett Building. It served as the meeting hall for the Chamber of Commerce in 1926, when votes were cast here to have Mar Vista become part of the city of Los Angeles. The building had a barber shop in its storefront at that time. Other early tenants included a real estate office, and a ladies retail Fashion Shoppe. When it was listed for sale in 1960, the realtor noted, “Place needs paint…would bring higher income if sharpened up.” By 2016 the party store in one storefront became a tattoo parlor, and in 2019 the main part of the building was painted black.
