The Center’s Houston Field Office operated primarily from 2008 to 2012, as a base for programs in the Gulf States region, and continued to support occasional activity after that. The site was developed at a former junk yard on the industrial fringe of the east side of the city, with frontage on the Buffalo Bayou, the main shipping channel and drainage artery for the City of Houston. The site, owned by the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, is across from a busy metal scrap yard, and a historic campus of the famous federal contracting company Kellog, Brown, & Root (KBR).
