One of two super head-end facilities for Verizon’s FiOS network is located in Tampa, Florida. The facility is an earth station, downloading content with 13 satellite dishes, and integrating it with fiber-based content. From here and the second, redundant facility in Bloomington, IL, the content streams to 14 regional video hubs around the country. The system is meant to compete with cable companies like Time Warner and Comcast, and with more than four million subscribers, it is the currently the fourth largest cable company in the country.
