Antelope Power Plant, North Dakota

The Antelope Power Plant is operated by the Basin Power Cooperative, and is supplied by the Antelope Coal Mine, located nearby. The plant produces 900 megawatts, and is adjacent to the company’s Great Plains Synfuels Plant, which makes natural gas from coal, and distributes it to the Midwest. There are several major power plants fed by adjacent coal strip mines in this area, northwest of Bismarck, and south of lake Sakakawea, including the largest plant in the state. Though these plants are in an unpopulated area, they provide power for the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and Minnesota.
