Boston Gas Tank, Massachusetts

In 1971, the Boston Gas Company commissioned the artist (and nun) Corita Kent to turn what many considered to be an industrial eyesore into a popular landmark. What has been called "the world's largest copyrighted artwork," is actually a reproduction, as the original tank was torn down in 1992, and her work was repainted on a second tank. The tank is used for natural gas, and was part of the storage facility network of former owner Boston Gas, then New England's largest natural gas company.
