Brayton Point Power Plant, Massachusetts

This coal-fired plant on the southern coast of Massachusetts, near Fall River, was once the largest fossil fuel power plant in New England. Coal was delivered by ship and barge from coal mines in West Virginia, Kentucky, and from as far away as South America, and entered the plant through a system of sloped conveyors. It was also the largest industrial source of air pollution in New England. The plant changed hands several times over its lifetime, and was last owned by Dynegy at the time of its closing in 2017.
