Broadway Paper Mill, Wisconsin
The Broadway Paper Mill is a tissue mill, using pulp supplied from other sources, to make toilet paper, paper towels, and napkins, for the at home market (consumers), and the away from home market (commercial customers, such as janitorial and service companies supplying restaurants, airports, offices, schools, and other institutional end-users). It is the larger of two plants in Green Bay operated by the Georgia-Pacific Company, often ranked as the second largest paper producer in the US. It is based in Atlanta, and owned by Koch Industries since 2005. GP started out as a lumber company (it still is) and moved into paper production by opening a massive pulp and paper mill in Toledo, Oregon in the 1950s, then expanding further by acquisitions. The purchase of the Fort James Corporation in 2000 moved it deeper into toilet paper and paper towel production, including the widely distributed Quilted Northern and Brawny brands, as well as the Dixie brand of paper plates and cups. The other plant in Green Bay is the Day Plant, which has been making toilet paper since 1901, when it was opened by the Northern Paper Company. It is located next to Procter and Gamble’s paper plant, which is also among the largest producers of toilet paper, possibly making Green Bay the largest source of toilet paper in the USA.
