Buckingham AT&T Relay Site, Virginia
This mountaintop site was built by AT&T in the 1960s, as part of the company’s communications infrastructure, and especially the part of it related to military communications. It is associated with other facilities in the region known as Project Offices. These sites had several antennas, including large concrete paraboloids used for tropospheric communications. Unlike the others, which had more elaborate facilities, this site was used a relay connecting the Chatham Project Office in North Carolina to the others in Virginia. The large concrete paraboloid antennas are still in place, though the site is now privately owned and used as part of a residence.
