Captain Morgan Rum Distillery, US Virgin Islands, US Territories

The Captain Morgan Rum Distillery is one of two large rum distilleries on the Island of St. Croix, the southernmost of the three major islands of the US Virgin Islands. It is owned by Diageo USVI, the parent company of Captain Morgan, which opened the distillery here in 2010. Nearby is the older Cruzan Rum Distillery on Rum Factory Road, on the site of a former sugar plant. More than 75% of the population of the US Virgin Islands are African-Americans, many are descendents of slaves who worked the sugar plantations that once dominated these islands and much of the Caribbean.
