Center of the Nation Information Center, South Dakota

The Belle Fourche Chamber of Commerce operates a visitor center at their offices, where they provide information about the region and its principal landmark, the “official center of the nation”. An outdoor plaza, with a 21 foot wide granite monument, was unveiled in 2007, to mark the center of the nation. The actual site, calculated in 1959, is in a field 21 miles north, and is marked with a small surveyors marker.
