Comsat Lab and Satellite Control Center, Maryland
The Comsat facility in Clarksburg, Maryland was an important satellite earth station and control center, as it was the technical campus of the Communications Satellite Company (Comsat). Comsat started as a US government subsidized satellite company in the 1960s, to stimulate growth in the industry, which it did. Years ago the company was acquired by Lockheed, and its historic campus is in transition, though its other earth stations, located elsewhere, remain in use by others including ViaSat and Intelsat.
