Cumberland power Plant, Tennessee

Cumberland Power Plant is located in Cumberland City, Tennessee, adjacent to the south bank of the Cumberland River, near 58,000-acre Lake Barkley. The plant is home to two coal-fired units whose nameplate output capacity is 2,470MW, making it the largest power plant by capacity in the state. Units 1 and 2 have output capacities of 1,200MW apiece, both becoming operational in 1973. The plant is owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The Cumberland plant sells gypsum (a by-product of scrubbing sulfur dioxide from flue-gas), to a nearby Georgia-Pacific wallboard plant which uses it in its own manufacturing process.
