Dare County Range, North Carolina
Dare County Range is an air-to-ground bombing practice range on 46,000 acres of marshland on the coast of North Carolina, constructed in 1965, on land leased from a paper company. It has two primary target areas, each with a bullseye type target with a diameter of more than 1,000 feet, as well as vehicle targets and tactical structural targets made out of shipping containers. The southern target area is used primarily by the Air Force, based out of Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, and the northern target is used by the Navy, mostly out of Oceana Naval Air Station. Together the range sees around 8,000 target practice sorties per year.
