Edmonston Pumping Plant, California

The largest pumping station in the State Water Project, the plant raises the California Aqueduct's water 1,926 feet over the Tehachapi Mountains, after which it is all downhill to Los Angeles. The plant claims to lift water higher than anywhere else in the world. The California State Water Project is a network of dams, reservoirs, pumping stations, and 550 miles of canals and major conduits, that distribute water from Northern California to the agricultural industries of the San Joaquin Valley, and to the metropoli of Southern California.
