Fallbrook Naval Weapons Station, California

Fallbrook, located on the eastern edge of the Marine Corps' Camp Pendleton, is a naval base used for the storing and loading of ammunition and weaponry, for use by Navy vessels operating in the Pacific. Administratively, Fallbrook is a detachment of Seal Beach Naval Weapons station in Orange County, the largest Navy weapons storage site on the west coast. Located 9 miles from the ocean, weapons are generally transported to and from Fallbrook by helicopter, from ships at sea or coastal loading areas at Camp Pendleton or Seal Beach. At Fallbrook, 200 munitions igloos store approximately half a billion dollars in armaments, and among the 119 buildings on base is a weapons maintenance and assembly complex, used primarily for air-launched naval missiles. The last of the nation's napalm weapons stockpile stored at Fallbrook was finally destroyed in March, 2001.
