Gerald Gentleman Power Plant, Nebraska

Gerald Gentleman Power Plant is located just south of Sutherland, in central Nebraska. It is home to two coal-fired units whose combined output capacity is 1,365MW, making it the largest power plant in the state. Unit 1 has an output capacity of 665MW, while Unit 2 has an output capacity of 700MW. Units 1 and 2 became operational in 1979 and 1982 respectively. The plant uses coal from Wyoming's Powder River Basin, which is transported via trains owned by Union Pacific Railroad. The nearby Sutherland Reservoir, a 3,000-acre artificial lake, supplies the plant with water. The plant is owned and operated by Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD).
